Photos: Police gives families of missing police officers N500k each as compensation

Six families of policemen who were declared missing after Boko Haram attacked the Police Mobile Training College in Gwoza, Borno state on August 20th 2014 have been compensated with N500,000 each by the Force Headquarters.

At a ceremony which held yesterday at the Police Mobile Force 50 Base, Kubwa Abuja, the wives of the missing soldiers were presented with cheques and the police promised to pay them the salaries of their missing husbands for one year. More photos after the cut...

Gloria started singing at age seven as a member of the All Saints Anglican Church choir, Yaba. She was a member of the church choir until she was 27 years old. Even when she traveled to the US for her university education, she still found time to sing in the church choir whenever she was home on holiday. However, singing socially did not start for her until she returned home finally in 1987.

"I did it as a hobby," she says, "and because I love to sing, I sang everywhere. Professionally, when I started making money from it was 16 years ago when I opened the bar. I have been doing this for basically all my life. I sang in the school choir, church choir, but the band has been doing this together professionally for 17 years."
Her love for music made her open a bar called Mama G's at Apapa. She had a band that used to come in to perform every night. But the band's inconsistency in putting up appearances at Mama G's forced her to put a band together and begin a new career in music.
Ibru has done three bars and each of them failed due to rent challenges. This may sound ridiculous considering her father's wealth. Owning a property shouldn't be a problem. But Ibru will have none of that at all. She is too independent-minded to be clouded by her father's business empire and wealth. "Is it my father that wants to open a bar?" she asks unashamedly. "I am the one that wants to open a bar so I should work hard towards acquiring my own. My father is still alive. He has not divided his property."
Ibru's passion lies with highlife, jazz and calypso. Often her beat could be a mixture of the three genres. Little wonder she says: "My album will be a fusion of highlife and jazz, highlife and calypso. Those are my genres. I use my songs to fight for all kinds of issues. There are jazz artistes, there are highlife artistes, but I call mine jazz life. It is a fusion of highlife and jazz."
With jazz life, Ibru's own creation, one is not surprised that she may be towing the line of great musicians like Fela Anikulapo, Sunny Ade, etc who created and popularised their own kind of music that have become legendary. Hence she defines good music as "music that is constructed".
"What I understand as a good song has verse, chorus, verse, chorus bridge, chorus end. There is construction to music. I don't understand how you will go into a studio, cook a beat down in 10 minutes and just sing la-la-la-l-ala and say you have done music. That is not music, that is a beat on your computer," she says.

27 year old Brazilian beauty Andressa Urach spent a month in intensive care after cosmetic gels rotted her muscles after she got surgery to enhance her butt. The model, who was 2nd runner Miss Bum Bum Brazil in 2012, said she feared she would lose her leg after the gel inserted into each of her upper thighs 'rotted' her muscles. Her wounds then got infected, causing septic shock.

For Comfort Oluwaseun Adebowale, Marriage is for better for worse. This principle has been her  guiding Philosophy since she walked down  the aisle with her husband of 15 years Olorode Abimbola Gbenga (pictured right) a teacher in Abeokuta Ogun State.

Comfort (pictured left) decided to love and give him a chance when they met in 1999 though he was a nobody then, his parents were late and his family abadoned him to fate and harsh realities of the society

Things took downturn in 2008 when the husband got a Job and then his behavior  changed, he started keeping late night, started behaving funny, answering calls from unknown women and then the worse of it, she  became his punching bag


I was enduring, hoping and praying that he will change, I cried to God in the night to touch his heart and bring him back home but it seem that things were getting worse she told me in an emotion laden voice

My husband of 15 years decided to rub it on me by dating my friend, a prophetess in our church and the wife of the shepherd of  Christ Anointed & Miracle Church Aregbesola Eleweran Abeokuta.

In a telephone conversation with this reporter, the battered woman narrated that the husband and the prophetess started dating late last year and then afraid that Karma will catch him, he directed her not to respond, greet  or be found talking with the man he snatched his wife who is incidentally the good shephard of their church, Pastor Samuel Adeniji, Good Shepherd   position akin to a pastor in modern pentecostal church

A directive that she disobeyed on Saturday 3rd January 2015, On her to the market, she saw the Pastor that the Husband snatched the wife sitting in front of their church, she stopped to greet him  and and before one could say Jack Robinson, the Husband appeared on the scene and   what happened next looks like a horror straight from Nollywood Film

The enraged husband slapped her in public and if that was not enough, he picked a stone from the ground and smashed it on her fore head, raining unprintable words on her and cursing her to die.

 Comfort was left in a pool of her blood and it took the intervention of good spirited individuals who took her to the hospital

When I asked her whether  she has reported the matter to Police, she said yes she has done that  only that his Father-in-Law ACP Olorode Timothy  retired as a policeman and the husband has been using that influence to stop the police investigation from going on

Boko Haram Can’t Stop Elections In Northeast – Governors

The Governors of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, the worst hit in Boko Haram attacks, say elections will hold in their states next month despite the security challenges posed by Boko Haram.

According to KSM News, the governors of Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima and his Yobe counterpart, Ibrahim Gaidam stated this while speaking to State House correspondents after a security meeting with President Jonathan at the presidential Villa, Abuja today January 6th.

The Governors argued that if elections could hold in troubled countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, then the Northeast states shouldn’t be an exception. Then they requested the deployment of more troops to effectively manage the insurgency crisis being faced in their states.

What is Assertive Training?

This is a Psychological process in which you learn how to express your views without being rude or suggestive to second or third party. This being said, the Mother-in-law/Daughter-in-law "beef" or dispute is a Universal Phenomenon which has caused a lot of problems and ended a lot of happy marriages and relationships. Some of these disputes have led to verbal abuse, shouting matches, fights over territory in the kitchen, disagreement over naming of children and even Physical confrontations between Mothers and Daughters-in-law. 

For you to understand any situation you have to go to its origin, ladies take note, before you came into the equation, the apple of your bae's eye and his number one protector was his mother who he showered with love and affection and then you came into the picture and suddenly all the attention shifted from his mother to you. This change is a process, naturally there will be some tension because it takes some time for mothers in-law to get used to the fact that their sons are no longer 100% theirs and they have to share him, or permission has to be sort on certain things in his life which they usually did directly or without question. 

Ladies, you need to learn to be diplomatic with your mothers in-law because you have more to lose than them. Pick your battles, most times, your boyfriend or husband will take his mom's side if any dispute arises. Let me also say that no amount of Diplomacy or Assertive Training will help you if your man is a "Mommy's Boy" and can't handle his mom or if his mom doesn't like you. Therefore, if you're in this situation where your man can not defend you or hold your hand, you need to develop a thick skin, have patience and most importantly PRAY. Studies have shown that the mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship is one of the most difficult in social psychology and there isn't any clear cut solution or approach towards this, because the variables always differ i.e different mothers/daughters-in-law have different cultural backgrounds, personalities and family structures. Dear Ladies, may you not fall into a bad mother-in-law situation. However, learn to adapt to your environment and also learn how to manage such delicate relationship in a diplomatic way. Dear mothers in-law, with due respect, I appeal to you to use your wealth of experience to deal with your daughters in-law in tactful ways, for the benefit of your son towards maintaining a happy married life..
