Moses returns for West Ham challenge

Victor Moses is expected to re­turn to action for Stoke City as in-form West Ham United bandwagon rolls on to the Britannia Stadium today.

Sam Allardyce’s men have won four of their last five games, and knocked off champions Manchester City last weekend to indi­cate that they are more than a flash in the pan.
The victory kept the Hammers in the top four of the table, and there is a growing belief around Up­ton Park that they could gatecrash what has been an exclusive European party this season.
Diafra Sakho contin­ued his record of scoring in every West Ham game in which he has started by notching for the seventh match in a row, but he is a major doubt for their trip to the Potteries after injuring his shoulder against City.
His potential absence is cushioned by the fact that fellow summer signings Enner Valencia and Mor­gan Amalfitano are also chipping in with goals, but it is the capture of Alex Song which could prove to be Allardyce’s shrewdest piece of business since his Bolton Wanderers days.
The Cameroonian mid­fielder has been instrumen­tal in West Ham’s success since joining on loan from Barcelona and has imme­diately formed an effec­tive partnership with Mark Noble which will keep fit-again Cheikhou Kouyate on the bench.
Club-record signing Andy Carroll, who is yet to feature this season because of an ankle injury, is near­ing a return, but this week­end perhaps comes too soon for him and therefore Carlton Cole is on standby to deputise for Sakho in at­tack.
With Mauro Zarate and Guy Demel still nursing knocks, Allardyce’s only other selection decision seems to be whether to re­tain James Collins at cen­tre-back, or recall James Tomkins now that the acad­emy graduate has recov­ered from the injury that has cost him two matches.
Stoke too have the scalp of Man City under their belts this season, but their problem is proving to be consistency, with Mark Hughes’s side having won three and lost three of their last six matches.
Their latest defeat came in the Capital One Cup fourth round to Southamp­ton on Wednesday, as they came from two goals down to level the match before conceding late on after the dismissal of Peter Crouch.
Crouch joins Phil Bard­sley in being suspended for the visit of the Irons, so Hughes will be forced into a reshuffle, with Geoff Cameron switching from midfield to right-back and Mame Biram Diouf play­ing centrally up top.
Victor Moses and Char­lie Adam could be recalled at the expense of Marko Arnautovic and Bojan, while Steve Sidwell may be handed just a second Stoke start in midfield, with Glenn Whelan injured.

Shekau denies ceasefire, says Chibokgirls have converted to Islam, marriedoff

Boko Haram denied that they had agreed to a
ceasefire in a new video obtained on Friday by
AFP, describing the Nigerian government
claims as a lie and apparently ruling out
future talks.
The group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, also
claimed the 219 schoolgirls kidnapped from
the remote northeast town of Chibok, in Borno
state, in April had converted to Islam and
been married off.
In addition, Shekau said the Islamists were
holding a German national, who was
kidnapped in Adamawa state, also northeast
Nigeria, in July.
The video comes after a surprise Nigerian
military and presidency announcement on
October 17 that a deal had been reached with
the militants to end hostilities.
A senior presidential aide to Goodluck
Jonathan also said agreement had been
reached to free the schoolgirls, whose
abduction sparked global anger and demands
for their release.
There was immediate scepticism about both
claims because of previous assertions of
ceasefires and the identity of the purported
Boko Haram envoy at the supposed talks,
Danladi Ahmadu.
Violence — and fresh kidnappings — have
continued unabated since the announcement,
including a triple bombing of a bus station in
the northern city of Gombe on Friday that
killed at least eight.
Nigeria’s government maintains that talks
were ongoing in the Chadian capital,
Ndjamena.
But Shekau, speaking in Hausa, dressed in
military fatigues and boots with a black
turban, and flanked by 15 armed fighters, said:
“We have not made ceasefire with anyone…
“We did not negotiate with anyone… It’s a lie.
It’s a lie. We will not negotiate. What is our
business with negotiation? Allah said we
should not.”
He also said he did not know Danladi.
– Kidnapped girls –
There was no indication of when or where the
video was shot but it was obtained through
the same channels as previous
communications from the group.
In it, Shekau mentions the Chibok girls for the
first time since a video obtained on May 5,
when more than 100 were shown in a rural
location dressed in the hijab and reciting
verses from the Koran.
Then, the militant leader said many of the
girls had converted to Islam but in the latest,
he indicated that all of those held had become
Muslims.
“Don’t you know the over 200 Chibok
schoolgirls have converted to Islam? They
have now memorised two chapters of the
Koran,” he said.
Shekau previously threatened to sell the girls
as slave brides and also suggested that he
would be prepared to release them in
exchange for Boko Haram prisoners.
In the latest message, he said while laughing:
“We have married them off. They are in their
marital homes.”
Human Rights Watch said in a report
published this week that Boko Haram was
holding upwards of 500 women and young
girls and that forced marriage was
commonplace in the militant camps.
One former hostage said she saw some of the
Chibok girls forced to cook and clean for other
women and girls who had been chosen for
“special treatment because of their beauty”.

Shekau’s claim in the video that they were
“holding your German hostage” is the first
claim of responsibility for the abduction,
which happened on July 16.
The German foreign ministry in Berlin said it
did not want to comment when contacted by
AFP.
Armed gunmen kidnapped the foreigner, who
was said to be a teacher at a government
technical training centre in Gombi, about 100
kilometres (62 miles) from the Adamawa state
capital Yola.
Suspicion immediately fell on Boko Haram,
which has repeatedly attacked schools
teaching a so-called Western curriculum, as
well as teachers and students.
An offshoot of Boko Haram, Ansaru, has
previously claimed the kidnapping of at least
eight foreigners in northern Nigeria since 2012
but the group has been largely dormant for
more than a year.
The group reportedly broke with Boko Haram
to specifically target foreigners instead of
Nigerians and executed seven expatriates it
seized from Bauchi state in 2013.
In January 2012, Boko Haram kidnapped
German engineer Edgar Raupach at a
construction site on the outskirts of the
northern city of Kano.
He was killed in a military raid on a Boko
Haram hideout on the outskirts of the city four
months later.
Kidnappings for ransom by criminal gangs are
common in the oil-producing south. On
October 24, armed men shot dead one German
national and kidnapped another in Ogun state,
southwest Nigeria.
Both were working for the construction firm
Julius Berger. The hostage was later released,
the company said on Thursday.

Ebola scare in Lagos motor park

The prompt intervention of Chisco transport officials has saved a pregnant wom­an, who after alighting from one of the company’s buses at its terminal, Jibowu, Lagos, started vomiting blood through her mouth and nose.

The bus, with registration number KJA 950 XR, was said to have arrived from Abuja at about 10am on the fate­ful day when the incident occurred. Scared by the development, other passengers were said to have taken to their heels as one of the passengers screamed that the pregnant woman was displaying Ebola symptoms.
It took the timely intervention of Chisco officials who made use of their standby ambulance to rush her to three different hospitals that rejected her when they realised that she was still bleeding.
Narrating the incident to Saturday Sun, a staffer of the company, simply identified as Juliet, said that the pas­senger, whose name is Joy, boarded their bus from Abuja to Lagos where the incident happened.
“On October 12, 2014 at about 10.15 am, a passenger, who was preg­nant, alighted from one of our buses that just arrived from Abuja. Immedi­ately she alighted from the bus, she fell down and started vomiting through the nose and mouth.
“The Jibowu branch manager called on the medical section, who organised an ambulance and took her to three dif­ferent hospitals who rejected her.
She was finally admitted at the Mili­tary Hospital, Yaba, Lagos. After sev­eral tests, they informed us that she was hypertensive which led to convulsion. The hospital demanded that an initial deposit of N36,000 should be paid be­fore they could treat her. We paid the said amount and directed our workers to take turns in taking care of her.
“This became necessary as we could not make contact with anyone who is related to her. We even discovered that she did not fill the next of kin column in the form we give our passengers. She later gave birth to a premature baby, and we had to pay another N5,000.”
According to Juliet, the woman and her child were later brought to their of­fice as soon as she was discharged on October 16, 2014. “We later assisted Joy to locate her sister, who resides in Ikorodu area of Lagos.”
Elated Joy thanked the manage­ment and staff of Chisco transport for assisting her in such a time of need. “I am okay and so is my little baby. It is only God that will reward them,” she prayed...post by expdonaloaded

Canada suspends visas forresidents of Ebola-hit Africancountries

In a bid to also stop the spread of Ebola into
its borders, the Canadian government today
October 31st announced its suspension of
visa applications for travelers from Ebola-hit
countries.
Below is the statement released today by
Canada's health minister, Rona Ambrose
"Our number one priority is to protect
Canadians. We continue to work with
domestic and international partners to
aid efforts to respond to the outbreak in
West Africa, while strengthening our
domestic preparedness here at home."
The Canadian immigration minister, Chris
Alexander said Canadian immigration
authorities will not process any visa
application for individuals who have been in
any Ebola-affected nation 'within three
months prior to the date of the application.'
"Canada has been a leader in the
international efforts to respond to the
Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The
precautionary measures announced
today build on actions we have taken to
protect the health and safety of
Canadians here at home." he said.

Tambuwal drags FG to court overremoval of his security aides

A day after his security aides were withdrawn
by the Federal Government, the Speaker of
the House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal, has
filed a suit against the FG before a Federal
High court in Abuja.
Tanbuwal filed the suit today Oct. 31st
asking the court to declare that the
withdrawal of his security aides while he's
still the Speaker is unlawful and
unconstitutional. He also asked the court to
restrain FG from further infringing on his
rights and privileges. There are reports they
are trying to declare his seat vacant and
organize a bye-election for the purpose of
replacing him. Tanbuwal asked the court to
restrain FG, INEC, PDP and IGP from doing
this. In the meantime, he wants the court to
order FG to return his security detail pending
the determination of the suit.

Bukina Faso President resigns following riot,military takes over

The President of Burkina Faso, Blaise
Campaore has resigned from office following
yesterday's massive protest by people who
were opposed to the elongation of his 27
years tenure. In a statement released today,
Campaore said his seat was vacant and urged
his people to conduct an election in the next
90 days.
Mr Compaore had earlier said he would
remain in power until a transitional
government had completed its work in 2015, a
position the opposition parties and the army
refused, forcing him to resign from power. His
whereabouts is currently unknown.
In the meantime, Bukina Faso's army chief
Nabere Honore Traore has taken over power
and has instituted a transitional body that
would conduct elections for the seat of the
president in the next 90 days.

Bim Akinmade: Don’t Get It Twisted

This phrase tends to fight its way past my lips whenever a guy winds me up to the point of no return, saying something that has my eyes rolling and neck gyrating manically like a possessed voodoo Queen. I feel like this has been happening way too often. Not because this is my typical dramatic reaction to every dubious statement that’s thrown my way, but because lately I have been drowning in so much crap, this being the verbal trash spewing forth from the lips of that otherworldly species known as men.

I find myself regularly dousing my face in splashes of cold water, as if confirmation that the crap I had just heard was real. I mean, did he really just say that to me? And is this really what I have to look forward to for the rest of my life? A lifetime of biting my tongue as he says and does the most unreasonable of things?

Sitting at the café, watching the passers-by swarm around us, I decided that I had agreed to this date for 2 reasons:
1) To size up this handsome guy sitting across from me. He was casually rocking some pastel-coloured chinos and a salmon V-neck. Good dress sense, check, plus he seemed attentive. His chocolate brown eyes steadfastly remained on mine throughout the conversation. They didn’t even stray when that petite Jamaican chick with the disproportionately large ass swaggered past, though I noticed she swayed significantly slower to give him a good eye full. Keep it moving hoe! But definitely big check

2) To reveal to him a little bit about myself. Just enough for him to get a good idea of our compatibility but holding back just enough to leave him with that tinge of curiosity; that yearning to run home and scan the web for the destination of our next hook up.

30 minutes into our conversation and I was pleased. The hot chocolate danced in my belly, spurring a warming sensation that sprouted up and out, culminating in a pleasant tingle at the tips of my fingers. I looked at them, wondering if this was a sign from God, spurring me on to touch the hands of my fated husband? Ok, maybe a bit far-fetched, but that pleasant feeling had me feeling mighty daring so I decided to go with it. 45 minutes into the conversation, I am gazing into his eyes, my fingers snugly intertwined between his and my mind deeply engrossed in our conversation. I am mesmerized by his intellect. The way his words slid of his tongue so effortlessly, giving me a glimpse into his limitless knowledge. Hidden between the facts were a few hopeful statements where he talked about settling down and starting a family. I had to look away; the intensity of his gaze as he said those things made my cheeks flushed. I didn’t want to hint that at that exact moment in time I was feeling exactly what he was feeling; that we potentially could be a match made in heaven.

Oh how that heaven swiftly turned to hell when I decided to ask him a few questions. Find out if this man and I were really meant to be. His responses hit me like the blow from a heavy weight boxer. I found my head reeling. And this dear ladies and gentleman is when I decided to generously untwist the twisted notions that this poor male had in is head about relationships:

Sex before marriage is compulsory: Personally I think this is completely at the discretion of the individual. Each to their own. The only thing I don’t agree with is when the man believes that because you are in a relationship he is entitled to your goods. I recently talked to a guy that described girls that decide to remain celibate in their relationship as selfish, because they force their men into celibacy. What kind of twisted world are we living in that women do not have the right to keep themselves?

Being your girlfriend/wife is interchangeable with your house maid: Even if you do ask me the question ‘can you cook?’ and I confirm that yes I can. It does in no way mean that I will now become your personal chef. Yes, every now and then if I have the time I will cook you meals. Not because I have to but because I love you and want to take care of you. But long gone are the days where men are the sole providers in the house hold, so if I am lugging my ass out of bed every morning and going to work to provide for our family too, then I suggest that you purchase a cook book and a masculine vacuum cleaner because I will not be the only one to cook and clean up in this hizzouse!

Just because your past girls have put up with it that I will: Too many times I have been told in that whiny and somewhat condescending tone ‘well my ex-girlfriend never had a problem with it’. Please, if you miss your relationship with your ex so much go and find her and resume your dysfunctional relationship because I don’t have time for little boys that are always referring to their past. I am a growing woman so I have got to keep it moving forward, not backwards thanks. Too many guys are used to behaving foolishly (e.g. not following through with promises, sexual promiscuity, being disrespectful etc.) and not suffering the repercussions because females in their past have kissed their asses, and failed to flag up serious flaws that need addressing. So when a no-nonsense woman comes into the picture they start cowering and complaining. Make up your mind: Do you want a woman that adores you but isn’t afraid to flag up your flaws to sculpt you into the amazing man she knows you can be? Or do you want a chick that Is going to bark ‘yes’ robotically in response to everything you say, whilst secretly thinking you’re a complete and utter douchebag? Choose.

Marriage is not a 2 way decision: Guys are getting too cocky. I guess they can smell the pungent odour of women ripe for marriage in the air so they use it as leverage in relationships, holding it above a woman’s head like teasing a dog desperate for a treat. The man that I marry needs to realise that I said yes when he donned that ring on my finger because I want to marry him and because he wants to marry me. It is a mutual agreement. In no way is it a privilege for a man to agree to marry a woman. In fact a woman enhances and upgrades a man’s life so really he should be seeing her acceptance to marry him as a blessing. Please recognise that I will continue to live life with our without your last name thanks.

That you can buy my love: ‘I would take her out shopping’; that was the response I received from one of my male friends when I asked him what he would do if he really messed up with his woman. Why are men so confused? This might work on some women but men need to realise that most women of this day and age can pay their own way, so buying them this or that won’t better your situation. Try writing her a poem, taking her to a sentimental destination or even making a gift yourself, something to reignite feelings of your love. Maybe then maybe will she be able to give you her whole heart.

That all women are players, juggling a million men at one time: Don’t get me wrong. If we are not in a relationship then in no way am I obligated to cut off all other guys and commit to you completely. But if we are courting, I like you, and am blatantly investing a lot of time to get to know you, why assume that every time my phone vibrates it’s from another guy? I have been asked so many times now by my potential suitor ‘oh so that other guy is calling you again right?’ that it is now laughable. He doesn’t believe that it is any of my numerous girlfriends, who grossly outnumber my male friends by like 10:1, so I just go with it. Let him believe what he wants to believe. Personally I think guys like the idea because they want to know that the chick they are courting isn’t desperate and has other options, so if it does work out they feel it hasn’t been forced but developed completely organically. She chose him.

So these are just some points that I wanted to clarify for the guys out there who seem to harbour some deluded ideas of what relationships should be like. If your girl all of a sudden looks like she is having a seizure; her eyes rolling to the back of her head as her neck swivels uncontrollably then you best believe you must have got it twisted.

“Santa Claus” Passes Away at 86

John Moore, the actor who played Santa Claus in a series of Coca-Cola and Morrisons television commercials has passed away at age 86.

Moore, was from Burgess Hill in West Sussex. He was married, but his wife died 10 years ago. They had no children, UK Express reports.
When he wasn’t playing “Father Christmas” on TV, he would still dress up in his costume for various charity events for children. He also worked as a taxi driver and a barman.
