Woman flees with son to avoid his circumcision

A Florida woman, Heather Hironimus, went missing with her 4-year-old son nearly 3 months ago, going into hiding as her long court battle against circumcision of her son reached its climax.

Some people say she was simply doing what she could to protect a child portrayed as "scared to death" of the procedure, a judge issued a scalding rebuke for her refusal to appear in court, charging her with contempt and issuing an arrest warrant.

Hironimus and the boy's father, Dennis Nebus, have been fighting since her pregnancy. They were never married but share custody of their child, and in a parenting agreement filed in court, the two agreed to the boy's circumcision.

However, the mother later changed her mind thus causing the long legal battle. Circuit and appellate judges have sided with the father, but potential surgeons have backed out after failing to get the mother's consent and being targeted by anti-circumcision protesters.

She was taken into custody Thursday, her attorney Thomas Hunker said, declining to release further details.

Luxembourg Prime Minister set to wed his gay partner

Xavier Bettel, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg (pictured right), will wed his gay partner, Belgian architect, Gauthier Destenay (left) today May 15th at a very private ceremony in Luxembourg. This will make him the first European Union leader to enter into a same-sex marriage and the second world leader to enter into a same sex marriage after Iceland’s prime minister Johanna Sigurdardottir, who married her writer partner in 2010. Bettel has been in a partnership with his partner since March 2010 and got engaged in August 2014.

Bettel who became Prime Minister in December 2013, told Belgium’s RTBF public television that he was getting married because he wants to accept his sexuality and avoid been unhappy all his life.

“I could have hidden it or repressed it and been unhappy my whole life. I could have had relations with someone of the other sex while having homosexual relations in secret. But I told myself that if you want to be a politician be honest in politics, you have to be honest with yourself and to accept that you are who you are.”

The low-key ceremony at the town hall in Luxembourg is being deliberately kept out off the media spotlight and will be followed by weekend-long private celebrations for around 500 guests.

Photos: Meet the baby born with no eyes

 One child born with horns, another one born without a nose and now a new baby born without eyes. Care worker Danielle Davis, 24, and her partner, Andrew Smith, 31, from South Wales  welcomed a daughter two months ago - a baby with no eyes. Danielle said she knew there was something horrible wrong with her child because a routine scan when she was pregnant showed her child had a cyst on the brain but she refused to have an abortion. After the child was born, doctors confirmed she had anophthalmia, a birth defect which affects just one in 10,000 babies.

"It was a shock - we had never heard of it before. But she is our gorgeous baby and we have no regrets about turning down a termination." Danielle said

"We want to give Daisy as normal a life as possible and give her the same opportunities as other children. We had never heard of the condition before and neither had any of our friends or family. People didn't really know what to say when we told them.

"The cyst showed up on the 21-week scan and naturally we were worried about it. But none of the doctors said our baby could be born blind. Everyone has been really supportive and I can't thank the doctors and midwives enough for all of their help."

Little Daisy will later this month go for an operation to fit glass eyes. And when she's 18months old, they will be replaced with painted eyes that will look more natural.
