Pope Francis confers sainthood on two Palestinians

Mariam Baouardy is to the left while Alphonsine Ghattas is
to the right..............
Today, May 17th, in a canonization laden with significance
both religious and political, Pope Francis declared Marie
Alphonsine Ghattas and Mariam Baouardy the first two
Palestinian saints of modern times.
About 2,000 Palestinians gathered in the Vatican's St. Peter's
Square to sing and pray and celebrate their saints. There,
they heard the Pope pay tribute to the way in which the two
new saints experienced the love of God.
He said: Sister Mariam Baouardy experienced this in an
outstanding way. Poor and uneducated, she was able to
counsel others and provide theological explanations with
extreme clarity, the fruit of her constant converse with
the Holy Spirit. Her docility to the Spirit also made her a
means of encounter and fellowship with the Muslim
world,"
"So, too, Sister Marie Alphonsine Danil Ghattas came to
understand clearly what it means to radiate the love of
God ... and to be a witness to meekness and unity. She
shows us the importance of becoming responsible for
one another, of living lives of service one to another," he
said.
Ghattas was born in Jerusalem in the 1840s to a devout
Christian family. She became a nun, dedicating herself to a
life of quiet servitude.
In Bethlehem, she said she began to receive visions of the
Virgin Mary telling her to start a new congregation for Arab
girls, called Sisters of the Rosary.
Ghattas' hard work and her profound devotion led to the
founding of the Rosary Sisters Convent. It was Ghattas'
home, which she donated to the convent to spread
education and culture to those in need.
While Baouardy was born in Ibillin, a small village in Galilee,
also in the 1840s. She was the 13th child in her family, and
the only one to survive past infancy.
Her parents died when she was 3 years old, and her uncle
raised her.
In Alexandria, Egypt, one of her uncle's servants told her to
convert to Islam. When she refused, the servant slit her
throat.
It was then that Baouardy's miracle began.
"Mariam became a martyr, and she went to heaven," said
Sister Fireal of the Carmelite Monastery in Bethlehem. "She
saw the crown of grace, saw her mother and father. But she
heard a voice saying that your life is not yet over and you
should return to Earth."
According to Baouardy's account, a young nun dressed in
blue healed her, cared for her, and led her to the church. It
was, she believed, the Virgin Mary.
Baouardy led a life of service to the poor and to the church.

Touching moment a Sikh man breaks strict religious protocol and removes his turban to help save life of little boy

New Zealand student Harman Singh, 22, broke strict
religious protocol by taking off his turban to help save the
life of a child hit by a car. He has been heralded as a hero.
Singh removed his turban to help cradle the bleeding head
of a five-year-old boy who had been hit by a car on his way
to school.
Mr Singh heard the accident take place outside his home,
before running outside to investigate. He broke strict Sikh
protocol by removing his turban. Turbans become a part of
a Sikh's body and are usually removed only in the privacy of
their own house. Normally this is in the most intimate of
circumstances, when bathing the head, or washing the hair.
Since the incident occurred, Mr Singh has received
thousands of messages and comments on his Facebook
page. 'Thousands of people have said "well done". I was only
doing what I had to and trying to be a decent member of the
community,' he said.

Teen revived after 20 minutes with no pulse said he saw Jesus

A 17-year-old Texas high school student claims he saw Jesus
after he collapsed in gym class and was without a heartbeat
for 20 minutes. Zack Clements suffered sudden cardiac
arrest at Victory Life Academy on May 5 and was
unresponsive. But just as doctors were about to declare him
dead after 20 minutes, he revived.
He was airlifted to the hospital & woke up in the intensive
care unit days later. Even more incredible than Zack's
recovery is what he claims he saw. Jesus!
"When I was out those 20 minutes, I saw a man who had
long ruffled hair and kind of a thick beard, and it didn’t
take me long to realize that that was Jesus," Zack said.
"I went up to him and he put his hand on my shoulder
and told me everything would be alright."
Zach and his family are saying that they can't explain what
happened, but they're calling it a miracle.

Airtel backs RLG/Osun ICT Youth Empoowerment Initiative

Airtel Nigeria has commended the Osun State Government
for its ICT-driven initiative which has not only enhanced skill
acquisition amongst youths but also led to job creation.
Speaking at the launch of new product brands by RLG, one
of Africa's Technology powerhouses, Airtel Nigeria's MD/
CEO, Segun Ogunsanya noted that the public-private
initiative between RLG and the State of Osun was worthy of
emulation as it is an example that good things can come out
of Africa.
Mr. Ogunsanya who noted that Airtel Nigeria has begun
partnering with RLG by placing orders for the phone brand
made at the RLG/Adelawo Technology City because it has
found that the products meet the company's standards.
He said that Airtel was happy to support more local
production as most of the phones imported into Nigeria
means transfer of Labour to other countries and also capital
flight.
He revealed that his company had no choice but to support
products manufactured locally since this has a tendency to
create more jobs and add value to the economy.
In his words "If you marry technology with the right
price, you create a vibrant market and with the knowledge
you provide, you lift more people out of poverty. We will
continue to partner RLG and Osun.
In his own speech, Governor Rauf Aregbesola said the
success story of the RLG/Adulawo Technogy City puts to
shame cynics who thought the project was an election
gimmick.
Describing the multi-million dollar initiative as a historic
monument to the power of vision, the Governor revealed
that the Technology City had in the last one years directly
employed 150 persons and trained 1,500 through the Osun
Youth Empowerment Scheme on Technology (OYESTECH).
According to him "this plant, a public-private partnership
with RLG Global is the biggest in Africa and the first of its
kind in Nigeria, given the potential of the electronics gadgets
in Nigeria, from mobile phones, LCD TVs, tablets etc, the
potentials are very great"
He used the opportunity to thank Airtel for patronizing
products from the Technology City, urging other
telecommunications outfits to join the train by supporting
these locally-produced brands
In his welcome address earlier, RLG's Regional Director,
West Africa, Mr. Tosin Ilesanmi who represented the Group
Chairman of RLG, Mr. Roland Agambire, the RLG/Adulawo
Technology City has recorded a huge milestone with the deal
it has struck with Airtel. He said with Airtel, the City will be
seen as a good base for infusing local content into the
Nigeria technological space and an indication that the
continent can compete favorably and meet international
standards.
He said that it was heart-wsrming that the initiative had
achieved this feat in just one year and was optimistic that
the future in terms of job creation and youth Empowerment
was great for this RLG Model.
In the course of the event, Mr.Alex Lu, CEO, RLG Global
introduced some new products. They include: Educational
laptop, EL3(which operates on both Android and Windows
platforms), the Smart Projector, Uhuru Accu phone and the
high-end Uhuru Titan.
Mr. Lu stated that the products are an indication of the
direction of the company, adding that RLG was in Nigeria to
empower youths and develop the education sector with a he
view of boosting the economy

US warns Gambian President to be more tolerant of homosexuals or else face consequences

The United States has criticized Gambian President Yahya
Jammeh on Saturday for "unconscionable" remarks, after he
reportedly threatened to slit the throats of gay men in his
country.
Jammeh made homosexuality illegal in Gambia and said he
would slit the throats of men who wanted to marry other
men in Gambia.
US National Security Advisor Susan Rice said the comments
were part of an "alarming deterioration of the broader
human rights situation" in Gambia. "The recent
unconscionable comments by Gambian President Yahya
Jammeh underscore why we must continue to seek a world
in which no one lives in fear of violence or persecution
because of who they are or whom they love," Rice said in a
statement.
Rice said the United States is concerned about reports of
broader rights violations in the country, including allegations
of missing US citizens.
"We are deeply concerned about credible reports of torture,
suspicious disappearances, including of two American
citizens -- and arbitrary detention at the government's
hands," Rice said.
Rice warned the US could take action. It revoked trade
preferences with Gambia last year following reports of a
crackdown against the country's lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender (LGBT) community.
"We are reviewing what additional actions are appropriate
to respond to this worsening situation," Rice said. "We
repeat our call for the Gambian government, and all
governments, to lead inclusively, repudiate intolerance, and
promote respect for the universal rights and fundamental
freedoms of all people."

'My wife is from Cape Verde, why I married her' Adams Oshiomhole

Yesterday May 15th, Edo state governor Adams Oshiomhole
married his gorgeous wife, Lala Fortez. Speaking about her
nationality and why he chose her, the 63 year old former
Labour leader said;
"I have seen a lot of publications, some saying that she is
Philippine, Dutch and several others, but she is from
Cape Verde. And that is part of West Africa. And I hope
that will rest the debate of where she is from,” he said
regarding her nationality.
About why he chose her, the governor said
"She is very humble, she appreciates the nature of my job
and life that it is one that one comes back home late.
Sometimes 3: 00 a.m., she understands my weaknesses,
she is more or less the mother of the house, the one that
has accepted to be the mother of my children. I am
happy that all my children are at home with her and
accept her as their mother even though she is not old
enough to be their mother. She has accepted to fill that
gap,” he told PM news

Lagos State uses 40% of power generated nationally - VP Sambo

Speaking during the unveiling of the Niger Delta Power
Holding Company Limited Oke-Aro 330/132kV transmission
substation in Lagos yesterday Friday May 15th, Vice
President Namadi Sambo who was represented by the
Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said The Ikeja
Electricity Distribution Company and Eko Electricity
Distribution Company account for over 40% of power
consumption in Nigeria.
He said this was understandable from the fact that Lagos,
which used to be the country’s capital remained Nigeria’s
commercial and industrial hub with a large concentration of
industries in Lagos state and Ogun State. Oke-Aro is situated
in a border line between Lagos and Ogun states.
“Prior to the advent of Oke-Aro substation, there were
only three 330/132/33kV substations in Lagos. One of
these three is Ikeja West 330/132/33kV substation which
was the major marshalling point for all power plants that
flow their generation into Lagos, and this development
had thrown the state into a state of great congestion with
limited space for safe expansion of capacity for increased
flows into Lagos and environs.
“All the 330kV power lines from the Benin and Oshogbo
330kV hubs of the national grid, which were also serving
as evacuation lines for NIPP new power plants at
Omotosho as well as Olorunsogo, terminated there. Even
330kV evacuation lines for older major power plants such
as Egbin in Lagos also terminated at Ikeja West.”

Buhari should not be sworn in with the Quran - Etcetera writes

Singer turned writer Etcetera doesn't think Buhari should
swear with the Quran. Hmm. Read below
A lot of Nigerians do not know that Nigeria is a secular
state and they are also not aware that the Constitution of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria does not require that
Buhari take his oath of office by swearing with the Quran.
The drafters of the constitution made it crystal clear that
any Nigerian of any faith or no faith can hold any office. It
would have been very easy for the constitution drafters to
include it in our constitution that the president should be
sworn in with the Quran. But they didn’t. In other words,
placing a hand on a Quran while reciting the presidential
oath is simply a tradition that is not backed by the
constitution. Meaning, it is absolutely unnecessary.
On Friday May 29, the Constitution requires that Buhari
gives this oath of office: “I, Muhammadu Buhari, do
solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and will to the
best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the
Constitution.” So, why should Buhari swear with a Quran?
Why shouldn’t he place his hand on the Nigerian
Constitution- the very document he’s promising to “preserve,
protect and defend?”
There’s is a gargantuan barrier between religion and state
and Buhari should demonstrate that he recognises this fact
by taking his oath of office with his hand on the constitution
instead of the Quran. His loyalty should be to the nation’s
laws above all else.
A lot of people will argue that Buhari swearing with the
Quran ensures that he adheres to his oath. But let’s be
truthful to ourselves: We have seen elected officials swear to
uphold the laws of our country with their hands on the
Quran and go on to steal billions of naira and break laws
like crazy. It all comes down to the individual’s moral code,
not a few seconds oath.
My objection is not only against the Quran. I would hold the
same view if it were the Bible, the Book of Mormon or any
other religious scripture. The drafters of the constitution
made it clear that the Nigerian Constitution, “shall be the
supreme law of the land.” It is the living legacy they
bestowed upon us. It is the framework for our government.
And as such, that’s the document our president should place
his hand on. It should be clear to us on May 29 that the
president views the Constitution as our nation’s alpha and
omega. As a matter of fact, your religion doesn’t matter
when you are taking a position in office because religion has
nothing to do with running a country.
I personally think that being sworn in with any kind of
religious testament is a waste of time and useless. A lot of
people in the out-going government were sworn in with the
Bible but did they deliver any of the things they promised
the country?
To some people, it doesn’t matter whether the president-
elect is sworn in with the Quran. They’re probably used to
seeing it happen. We just take it for granted that it is the way
things have always been done, but it doesn’t necessarily
make it right. In my opinion, any elected leader in any
secular country like ours is voted in to represent everyone in
that country. So why not swear with a document that means
something to everyone, such as the constitution? Wouldn’t
that make more sense, instead of swearing with a religious
document that only represents a chunk of the population?
Imagine if a Juju priest was elected President, would it be
okay for him to be sworn in with ‘sango, orunmila or
amadioha’ or some other work written about atheism?
Would it be okay for an ogboni president to be sworn in with
the ogboni book of sacred covenant? I am a Catholic and I
believe completely in not swearing with the Bible because
there are multiple religions in the country and swearing with
a Bible will not cause the sacred binding to the truth if the
person swearing does not share a religion with the Bible.
The Bible does not have the same meaning to every person.
So it shouldn’t be counted as a true binding document.
Finally, we shouldn’t also forget that oath taking of any kind
is absolutely forbidden by the Bible:
“But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven,
for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool;
or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do
not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair
white or black. All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’;
anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” – Matthew
5:34-37

PDP encouarges Buhari to be compassionate to everyone

National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP
yesterday urged the President- elect, General Muhammadu
Buhari, retd to see himself as a father of the nation who
should live like late South Africa President, Nelson Mandela
and forgive killers and arsonists.
Speaking with Journalists in Abuja, PDP deputy National
Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus who was responding to
General Buhari’s comment when some stakeholders and
traditional rulers from Rivers state visited him Wednesday,
said that as the President- elect, he should comment as a
father on issues that may be brought before him, rather
than take sides especially on issues awaiting adjudication
and before a panel of inquiry or the judiciary.
According to PDP, Buhari needs to try to deal with such
issues with passion of a father to all irrespective of party
affiliation, adding that such utterances do not portray him as
an elder statesman. Secondus said, ” the utterances of the
President -elect when he received a delegation of some
traditional rules from Rivers state do not portray him as a
statesman. He is the president-elect and indeed the father of
all. He should exercise caution and restraints in some
issues, especially when such issues are still in court.
“The election tribunals in the country and even in Rivers
state have just commenced sitting and unguarded
statements could be seen as prejudicial and give negative
signals. “The president-elect should emulate the late
President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela who assumed
office as president of South Africa at such a critical time in
the history of South Africa.” The PDP Deputy National
Chairman who noted that it was unfair for Buhari to make
such claims and statements when the issues involved,
including the integrity of the governorship election in the
state was subject of election tribunal, said, “He is the
president -elect and soon to be sworn in as the President of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not the president of the
APC.”

The Glory Of Womanhood Gone Where?

Back then when the dignity and pride of womanhood was
something worth nurturing. Nevertheless, a lot has lost the
values that comes with it on a platter of foolishness. While
others have slim reasons that warrant such lose, the rest -
which happens to be the greater populace bears no reasons
for their actions, not even regret. Each day I ponder why the
transit decay of morals amongst our mothers of tomorrow.
However, its easier for a camel to pass the eye of a needle
than a girl in her mid-20's still virtuous. I wonder! Today's
girls practice what I call "Street-whorish". Amidst this,it is
only fair to accost men as being the reason for this menace
but I disagree. Why blame Men for an action which u
instigated? Why wear revealing apparels just to express
beauty? No one born of a woman can deny the beauty
bestow in every woman. Then why show it 'freely'. It took
something for you as a woman to be made. It cost God
something of Adam to make you. Now u offer it to every man
and harry that comes by. The original plan of God was for u
to honor ur husband with that virtue which every other men
desire, that which other men is willing to live or die getting...
I may not be worthy to say this to you but as long as you do
read this, and with the pricking of heart, do make Amend.
That lost virtue can still be gotten if you wud STOP and make
amend NOW!
